Photon detection from living tissue

How do you detect photons a standard luminometer cannot see?

Our technology delivers outstanding sensitivity for detecting endogenous chemiluminescence from biological samples.

  • End-to-end measurement design: dark enclosures, optical coupling, shielding, calibration
  • Flexible PMT detectors with modular electronics and software control
  • Compatible with diverse experimental setups and protocols
  • Scalable for research and industrial applications

Measurement Services & Custom Instrumentation

From lab services to custom builds — our expertise in BAL/UPE and PEF translated into actionable outcomes.

Luminescence Measurement-as-a-Service (MaaS)

We run ultra-weak photon emission (UPE/BAL) measurements on your samples in our light-tight systems.

Use cases: oxidative-stress screening, antioxidant efficacy, shelf-life, QC. Deliverables: raw counts, statistics, interpretation report.

Real-Time Electroporation Monitoring (PEF)

Label-free BAL monitoring during pulsed-electric-field treatment to track permeabilization efficiency.

Why it matters: real-time indicators without fouling sensors.

PEF-Induced Oxidation Assays

Quantify PEF-generated ROS and downstream protein oxidation via endogenous (bio)chemiluminescence.

Outcomes: map safe/efficient PEF windows, compare electrodes/materials.

In Vivo / Ex Vivo BAL Imaging

High-sensitivity imaging to map spatial oxidative processes and antioxidant protection.

Deliverables: EMCCD images, ROI statistics, PMT kinetics, interpretation memo.

Fermentation & Bioprocess Monitoring

Track oxidative metabolism in cultures via BAL alongside pH/pO2/OD to define stress and process indices.

Use cases: phase transition detection, stress assessment, on-line process monitoring.

Seeds, Plants & Stress Phenotyping

Non-invasive BAL assays for germination vigor, stress tolerance, and treatment effects.

Applications: seed tech, agronomy, plant physiology R&D.

Data Analytics & Signal Processing

Bespoke pipelines: Poisson/negative-binomial modeling, variance-aware detrending, Fano/Hurst metrics.

Benefits: correct statistics for UPE signals and robust decision thresholds.

Custom Instrumentation & Dark-Chamber Builds

Turnkey PMT integration, optics, spectral filters and low-reflectance light-tight chambers with electrical and optical feedthroughs — from benchtop retrofits to bespoke enclosures and OEM modules.

Scope: from benchtop retrofits to bespoke enclosures and OEM modules.

Typical Deliverables

  • Protocol & hardware plan (detector, optics, chamber)
  • Data package (raw counts, pre-processed series, fitted distributions)
  • Decision metrics (PEF efficiency index, antioxidant protection factor)
  • Short interpretation memo with next-step recommendations

Frequently Asked Questions

What labs and instrument builders most often ask us before ordering.

Can you build a custom light-tight enclosure for my existing detector, spectrometer or camera?

Yes — that is our core business. The Enclosure DC and all custom dark-chamber builds are made to order around your hardware: chamber size, mounting rails, electrical and optical feedthroughs, sleeved manipulation ports, and optional temperature regulation.

What is ultra-weak photon emission (UPE) and how is it measured?

UPE — also called biophoton emission, ultraweak bioluminescence or endogenous chemiluminescence — is the faint light emitted by biological and material samples, mostly from oxidative processes. It is measured with photomultiplier tubes (PMT) or EMCCD cameras inside light-tight dark chambers using photon-counting electronics.

Do I need to buy an instrument, or can you measure my samples for me?

Both. With Measurement-as-a-Service (MaaS) we run your samples in our light-tight systems and deliver counts, statistics and an interpretation report. If you measure routinely, we build the detector setup or dark chamber that fits your lab.

How is a Biophotoniq dark chamber different from a standard black box?

Light-tightness is only the starting point. We design the chamber as part of a calibrated measurement system: low-reflectance interior coating, clean optical detector coupling, and feedthroughs that do not leak stray light.

Do you build OEM modules?

Yes. We deliver PMT-based photon-counting modules and dark-chamber subsystems for integration into OEM instruments — from benchtop retrofits to fully bespoke enclosures designed with our 3D modeling pipeline.

Which industries use your instruments and services?

Biotech and electroporation, food and beverage (PEF processing), dermatology and cosmetics, agriculture and seed technology, and academic R&D labs measuring ultra-weak luminescence.
